LEXINGTON, Ky. – Facing their second indoor meet of the season, seven members of the Miami University women’s track and field team competed in the weight throw and distance medley relay to complete day one of the Kentucky Invitational, hosted by the University of Kentucky at the Nutter Field House.
Four RedHawks kicked off the meet in the weight throw, with junior Adaora Anunike finishing 19th with a mark of 15.25m. Sophomore Amelia Strickler was the second RedHawk to place in the weight throw, taking 22nd with a mark of 14.42m. In her second indoor meet of her collegiate career, freshman Ashley Frahm improved upon her 13.39m throw from the IPFW Mastodon Opener, finishing 24th with a mark of 14.01m. Freshman Martha Szekely also earned a personal-best throw of 13.24m, placing 29th.
The Red and White concluded the first day of the invitational with a third-place finish in the distance medley relay as sophomore Megan Beaver, freshman Lauren Hoover, junior Taylor Wickware and sophomore Laura Bess clocked a combined time of 12:00.97. Kentucky won the distance medley in 11:46.56 and Ohio State took second in 11:55.09.
The Kentucky Invitational resumes Saturday at 9 a.m. with the high jump, while the track heats up at 11:30 a.m. with the 60m hurdles. The 1600m relay will conclude the Kentucky Invitational at 4:20 p.m. Live results for Saturday’s competition can be found here.
