MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Miami tennis team opened the 2013-14 season Friday with a strong performance on the first day of the Ball State Invitational. The RedHawks swept their singles matches on the opening day of the tournament.

Freshman Andreea Badileanu picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win in her first match as a RedHawk. Junior Ramona Costea posted a 6-2, 6-1 win, while junior Christine Guerrazzi notched a 6-2, 6-3 win. Sophomore Chloe Heerden won 6-3, 6-0, and sophomore Ana Rajkovic tallied a 6-4, 6-4 win. Senior Christiana Raymond posted a 6-4, 6-3 win, while junior Alix Thurman won 6-1, 6-2. 

"I was pleased with how we competed in singles today," said head coach Anca Dumitrescu. "We took care of the basics well and played with a positive attitude. I am looking forward to us being more challenged tomorrow and continuing to stick with our game plan."

In doubles play, Thurman and Raymond handled their opponents, winning 8-1 and 8-2. Rajkovic and Guerrazzi split their matches, losing 8-5 in the first match but rebounding with a sound 8-0 win in the second match. Costea and Heerden lost both of their matches by scores of 8-5. 

The RedHawks will continue play in the Ball State Invite Saturday morning at 9 a.m.
