CLEVELAND – For the second time in less than a month, Miami University sophomore distance runner Anna Lamb has been selected as the Mid-American Conference Female Scholar Athlete of the Week for the week of April 22-28, the league office announced Friday. She collected her first such honor April 5 and is one of just five MAC female athletes to claim the award twice this year.

Running the 10,000m run for just the second time in her career, Lamb (Granville, Ohio) won the 10K at the famed Drake Relays Thursday night, April 25 in a school-record time of 34:35.39. She ran away from the field, winning the 36-woman race by 21 seconds ahead of Oakland’s Brittni Hutton, who was the runner-up. Mississippi’s Kayleigh Skinner was third in 34:59.20 while the field included runners from across the country, including several Big Ten runners. Lamb shattered Miami’s previous school record of 34:48.24 by 13 seconds, which was set by Michelle Slykhuis at the 1985 Mid-American Conference Championships. Lamb’s time ranks second in the MAC this year and 25th in the East Region. She improved her time 30 seconds from the first time she ran the 10K a few weeks ago.

Lamb carries a 3.89 grade-point average, which is fourth-best on the team, while majoring in kinesiology. She was also named Miami’s Female Athlete of the Week this week for her efforts.

A RedHawk has now earned MAC Female Scholar Athlete of the Week seven times this year with swimmer Leah Thornton the last to do so other than Lamb on Feb. 1. Like Lamb, volleyball’s Meg Riley won it twice while soccer’s Kelsey Dinges and basketball’s Courtney Osborn have also claimed the honor this year. Lamb won her first MAC Female Scholar Athlete of the Week honor for the week of March 25-31 when she won the 5000m run at the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational.

Lamb has the weekend off to rest up before returning to action at the MAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Akron, Ohio May 9-11. Some RedHawks on the team will compete today (Friday), however, at Indiana’s Billy Hayes Invitational.
