YPSILANTI, Mich. - Four individual RedHawks and a relay team earned points on the track Saturday on the second and final day of the 2013 Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships, hosted by Eastern Michigan University at Bowen Field House, as the Miami University women's track and field team finished eighth.

The RedHawks, who sat in sixth after day one Friday, finished with 35.5 points, including 21.5 points that were compiled on Friday. Kent State captured its second straight MAC title on the women's side, running away with the crown with 175 points. The host Eagles placed second with 94 points, followed by Western Michigan (73), Akron (71) and Toledo (65) in spots three through five, respectively. Ohio was one spot ahead of Miami with 38 points to place seventh while Central Michigan was behind Miami in ninth with 25.5 points in the 12-team field.

Senior Layne Baggett (Pittsburgh, Pa.) finished fourth in the 60m hurdles final in 8.50 seconds to earn five points for Miami, after she qualified third in Friday's prelims in 8.48 seconds. Her finals time ties for the sixth-fastest time in school history, five of which Baggett owns.

Sophomore Taylor Wickware (Geneva, Ill.) came in seventh in the 800m run final in 2:16.27 for two points, improving one spot after qualifying eighth in prelims (2:13.80) Friday. In the 400m dash final, freshman Kala Allen (East Amherst, N.Y.) also placed seventh in 57.01 to pick up another pair of points for the 'Hawks, after qualifying third in prelims (56.75).

In the mile run, freshman Laura Bess (Brownsburg, Ind.) claimed eighth to earn one point, as she clocked a personal-best 4:54.10, which ranks her fourth in school history, improving her previous-best time by over three seconds. Sophomore Melissa Girgis (Worthington, Ohio) just missed scoring in the 3000m run, as she crossed in ninth in 10:01.33. Girgis also took seventh in the 5K on Friday.

Miami capped the meet by taking fifth in the 4x400m relay for four more points as Allen, sophomores Gretchen Walter (Piqua, Ohio) and Charlotte Myers (Bexley, Ohio) and freshman Kathie Wollney (Cary, Ill.) combined to clock 3:51.76.

In field action, redshirt senior Samantha Gable (Greenfield, Ind.) just missed scoring by placing ninth in the weight throw with a heave of 16.99m/55-9, while junior Erica Mudd (Cincinnati, Ohio) tied for 12th in the high jump, clearing 1.62m/5-3.75.

With the MAC Championships complete, indoor season is over for most of the RedHawks, however select RedHawks will run at the Notre Dame Last Chance meet March 1-2 in South Bend, Ind. in an effort to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships, which are March 8-9 in Fayetteville, Ark. Outdoor season begins March 15-16 at the Hurricane Invitational in Miami, Fla.
