Junior World Qualifier/Mid-America Championships Website
All three Miami University synchronized skating teams return to the ice this weekend in Fraser, Mich. The RedHawk junior team will compete in the Junior World Qualifier, while the senior and collegiate teams compete in the Mid-America Championships.
The RedHawks are coming off one of the most successful season-opening competitions in program history and look to build upon their strong start to the season.
Miami's junior team competes Jan. 11-12 in the Junior World Qualifier. A top-two finish at the event would send them to the Junior World Championships in Helsinki, Finland, March 8-9. The RedHawk junior team, which skates it short program to the theme Devil in the Blue Dress and its free skate to a Hollywood theme, posted a third-place finish at the Dr. Richard Porter Classic in December, including a second-place score for its free skate. It was the best finish for the junior team at the event in program history.
The senior team competes at the Mid-America Championships Jan. 12-13 and faces the two teams that finished ahead of them at last year's national championships. Skating its short program to a Dance Macabre them and its free skate to music from the 1920s, the senior team posted a first-place finish at the Dr. Richard Porter Classic for the second straight year, with a combined score nearly 11 points ahead of their nearest competitor.
Skating to a Rock 'N Roll theme, the RedHawk collegiate team seeks its ninth straight first-place finish dating back to the beginning of the 2010-11 season after recording a first-place finish by a 16-point margin at the Dr. Richard Porter Classic.
