WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Playing in one of the largest tournaments it is has ever participated in, the Miami University golf team is in a tie for 11th place out of 27 teams after one round of the Middleburg Bank Intercollegiate on Sunday. The RedHawks shot a first round score of 18-over par 298. They are only 10 shots behind co-leaders Eastern Michigan and Texas Tech, which each shot an eight-over par 288.
Senior Mark MacDonald and junior Scott Cahill tied for the best round of the day individually for Miami. Each shot a three-over par 73 and they are currently tied for 21st, five shots out of the lead.
Sophomore Jack Sparling shot a five-over par round of 75 Sunday, and is tied for 47th. Sophomore Brantley Kushner is tied for 75th after shooting a seven-over par 77, while sophomore Bud Radis is tied for 96th after a nine-over par 79.
The Middleburg Intercollegiate continues with the second round on Monday.
