OXFORD, Ohio – Behind a fantastic pitching performance from senior Paige Myers, the Miami University softball team earned a 3-0 victory over Akron on Saturday. The RedHawks improve to 18-22 overall and 6-7 in the Mid-American Conference. The Zips fall to 20-12 overall and 6-5 in the MAC.

Myers was nearly unhittable while earning her eighth victory of the season. She threw a complete game, allowing only five hits while striking out a season-high tying nine. No Akron runner was able to advance past second base against her.

Miami got all the runs it needed in the bottom of the first inning. Senior catcher Kayla Ledbetter led off with a single through the left side. Senior second baseman Kristy Arbour reached on a throwing error by the catcher; Ledbetter advanced to third on the play. Arbour was able to steal second on the next play. The throw was dropped by the Zips’ second baseman, which allowed Ledbetter to score and give the RedHawks a 1-0 lead.

After Akron recorded an out, junior outfielder Bree Lipscomb drew a walk. Sophomore designated player Jenna Modic followed with a single to left field that scored Arbour. One batter later, junior third baseman Remy Edwards completed Miami’s scoring with a single to right center that brought home Lipscomb and made it 3-0.

Arbour finished the game 2-for-4 with one run scored. Modic was 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Miami completes its weekend series with Akron Sunday at 1 p.m.
