OXFORD, Ohio – The Miami University field hockey team opens the defense of its Mid-American Conference regular season title when it hosts Ball State on Friday. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
The RedHawks enter the game with a 6-6 record. Miami has played an extremely difficult schedule during non-conference play, having played a total of six ranked opponents. It is the 20th-most difficult schedule in the country, and as a result the ‘Hawks rank 25th overall in RPI.
Last week, Miami defeated Michigan State out of the Big Ten, 2-0. Freshman midfielder Carla Romagosa recorded a goal and an assist, and was honored as the MAC Offensive Player of the Week for her efforts. Senior goalkeeper Sarah Mueller earned her 11th career shutout, and was named MAC Defensive Player of the Week.
Ball State enters the game 5-6 overall and 0-1 in the MAC. Last weekend, the Cardinals fell in their league opener, 1-0, to Central Michigan on Saturday. They then dropped a 10-2 decision to 19th-ranked Michigan on Sunday. Ball State is led by freshman forward Lexi Kavanaugh. She has six goals for 12 total points on the season.
Miami continues MAC play next weekend when it hosts Missouri State on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 10 a.m. The RedHawks then step out of conference for a game against another ranked opponent when they take on 18th-ranked Iowa on Sunday, Oct. 20 at noon.
