OXFORD, Ohio – The Miami University field hockey team has one final tune-up before beginning Mid-American Conference play when hosts Michigan State on Sunday. Game time has been moved up to noon due to projected bad weather in Oxford.
The RedHawks are 5-6 overall after dropping a pair of one-goal games to Big Ten teams Indiana and eighth-ranked Penn State last weekend. Junior midfielder Valentina Neira and senior forward Emily Gruesser each scored goals against the Hoosiers on Friday, but Indiana was able to use a strong first half to take a 3-2 victory. Against the Nittany Lions on Saturday, senior forward Alyssa Logan scored only five minutes into the contest, but Penn State scored in the 33rd and 49th minutes to earn a 2-1 win.
Michigan State is 5-6 on the season. It defeated Indiana, 4-3, in its last game on Friday. The Spartans are led by junior forward Allie Ahern. She has nine goals and one assist for 19 points on the season. MSU is the fifth Big Ten opponent the RedHawks have faced in 2013.
Miami begins MAC play next Friday when it hosts Ball State at 5:30 p.m.
