OXFORD, Ohio - Miami University field hockey coach Iñako Puzo announced Wednesday the signing of six future RedHawks to National Letters of Intent. Colby Hussong (Pennington, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro High School South), Jenna Kapsar (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove), Grace Leeker (St. Louis, Mo./ Villa Duchesne), Kate McLaughlin (Chester Springs, Pa./ Downingtown East), Geagy Pritchard (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest School) and Kelsi White (Louisville, Ky./Dupont Manual) have all decided to continue their field hockey careers at Miami University.

"The recruiting process is challenging," said Puzo. "We look for players that fit in our program, share similar values, visions and goals in their academic and athletic career. Today, after many evaluations, meetings and contacts, we are welcoming six amazing young women to our program.

"These student-athletes come to Miami after completing a great academic and athletic career at the high school level. I believe this class will have an immediate impact in our field hockey program. We are confident that their contributions on and off the field will help us to keep growing as a team, and reach our academic and athletic goals."

This is a talented group that boasts a lot of success in high school, including state championships and semifinal appearances. Several of the players also have all-state and all-region honors. Puzo is excited about the commitment this group brings to the Red and White academically. As a whole, the six recruits boast a combined average GPA of 3.7.

"Signing day is always an exciting and very special day for athletes, coaches, and entire families," said Puzo. "As a group we have to highlight their character, their commitment, their excellent grades and their excitement to become part of the field hockey program at Miami University. On the athletic side we have a group with a high skill level and a great understanding of the game.  We are looking forward to working with these players and get the best of each one of them."

Next week the recruits will be profiled in depth, two-at-a-time, alphabetically. Fans will learn more about their high school and club accomplishments, as well as read quotes from Coach Puzo, their prep coaches, their parents and the athletes themselves.  Check back with MURedHawks.com Monday, Wednesday and Friday next week for a new profile.
