SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Playing every Mid-American Conference team only once this season makes every game that much more important for the Miami University field hockey team. This weekend the RedHawks head to Springfield, Mo., to take on the Missouri State Bears on Saturday at 1 p.m. (EDT). Miami will then step back out of conference when it travels to Saint Louis for a 3 p.m. (EDT) game on Sunday.

The RedHawks (5-6 overall, 1-0 MAC) are coming off a 3-0 week in which they opened MAC play with a huge, 4-1, win over Central Michigan in Mt. Pleasant, Mich. on Friday. Miami then came home and defeated Georgetown, 7-1, on Sunday and Saint Francis (PA), 3-2, on Monday. After scoring three goals and recording an assist, along with setting up several other goals, senior Olivia Miller was named MAC Offensive Player of the Week. Junior Ali Froede earned MAC Defensive Player of the Week honors after leading a RedHawk defense that allowed only four goals in three games.

Missouri State is 3-6 overall and 1-0 in the MAC. After opening league play with a 4-2 win over Ball State last Saturday, the Bears struggled in a 10-1 defeat against Ohio State on Sunday. The game against Miami will be MSU's first home game of the season, as it played its first nine games on the road. The Bears are led by junior forward Hillary Lawless, who has five goals and one assist for 11 points on the season.

Saint Louis is 1-9 on the season. It is coming off its first win of the year when it traveled to Muncie and defeated Ball State, 3-2, last Sunday. The Billikens are led by junior forward Tori Lycett, who has four goals and one assist for nine points in 2012.

Miami returns home for a pair of games next weekend. The RedHawks will host Kent State in a key MAC showdown on Saturday, Oct. 6 at noon. Miami will then face Indiana on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 1 p.m.
