OXFORD, Ohio - Three Miami teams competed last week (Aug. 20-26) as the Miami Athletics calendar jumped into full swing and leading the volleyball team on opening weekend was sophomore outside hitter/setter Meg Riley, which earned her Miami's first Female Athlete of the Week for the 2012-13 school year. No men's Miami teams competed last week.

Riley (St. Louis, Mo.) had an unbelievable week leading the RedHawk offense. She set career highs for kills in all three matches, recording 13 against IUPUI and Wright State and topping that with 20 against Marshall. In the season opener against IUPUI, she only played the third and fourth sets and immediately made a difference in the match. After Miami dropped the first two sets, she was inserted into the lineup and went on to record 10 kills in set three and finished with 13.

Playing full-time and all six rotations against Wright State and Marshall, Riley did even better. Playing half the time as an outside hitter and the other half as a setter, she recorded her first two triple-doubles in those matches. In the win over Wright State, Riley had 13 kills, 12 assists and 10 digs. In the five-set loss to Marshall, Riley finished with 20 kills, 20 assists and 12 digs. She averaged 4.60 kills per set to lead Miami over the weekend and was second on the team with a 2.50 digs per set average. She also had two service aces, a solo block and two block assists.

This is the first Miami Athlete of the Week honor of her career.

Riley and the RedHawks are back in action this weekend at the Diet Coke Classic in Minneapolis, facing Albany, host Minnesota and LIU Brooklyn Aug. 31 and Sept. 1. Two Miami men's teams start their season this weekend as well so the first Miami Male Athlete of the Week will be awarded next Tuesday, Sept. 4 along with the next Miami Female Athlete of the Week.
