CLEVELAND - After winning her first career cross country race, Miami University senior cross country runner Kelley Miller was tabbed Mid-American Conference Women’s Runner of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. Junior men’s cross country runner Jarrod Eick earned the honor on the men’s side, giving Miami a sweep of the weekly awards.
Miller (Dublin, Ohio) won the RedHawks’ own Miami Open Saturday for her first title, claiming the 5K race in 18:11 in her season debut. She led the RedHawks to the team title in a three-team field, as Miami totaled just 19 points. Miller finished nine seconds ahead of the runner-up in a 34-woman field.
The weekly honor is the first of Miller’s cross country career. She was twice named MAC Track Athlete of the Week as a junior however, doing so on Jan. 27 and April 1, 2010.
Miller and the RedHawks have little time to rest as they return to action Friday, Sept. 16 at the Spartan Invitational, hosted by Michigan State in East Lansing, Mich. The race begins at 1:35 p.m. ET.
