“Overall it was another great competitive experience for the team,” said head coach Anca Dumitrescu. “We had opportunities to win the first set at 3 and 4 and we were leading on court 5 in the second seat. The girls fought well but Northwestern played the key points a little better. We need to continue to build in our consistency and toughness but I am very pleased with the progress we made this year as a team.”
In doubles play, Miami’s No. 1 tandem of senior Nimisha Mohan and sophomore Andreea Badileanu lost by a score of 8-2. Playing at No. 2 singles, juniors Alix Thurman and Christine Guerrazzi were downed by Northwestern, 8-2. Miami’s No. 3 team consisting of senior Christiana Raymond and sophomore Ana Rajkovic were losing by a score of 6-4 when their match was abandoned after the doubles point had been decided.
In singles action, Mohan fell first at No. 1, 6-1, 6-2. Badileanu lost next at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-3. Finally, RedHawk sophomore Ana Rajkovic turned in a 6-3, 6-3 loss at No. 6 singles to give the Wildcats the match win and send them on to the Regional Championship tomorrow at 1 p.m. (EST).
Miami ends the season with a 91-42 record in singles action in addition to a 32-31 clip in doubles play.
