Last Week: The RedHawks took sole possession of first place in the MAC East after pulling off four tight road victories. Miami's week began with a day trip to Columbus to take on in-state rival Ohio State. Charlie Suich tossed six strong innings while Jacob Banks pitched three scoreless frames to pick up his first collegiate save in a 3-1 win over the Buckeyes on Tuesday. (Recap) A career-high 13 strikeouts in eight innings from Seth Varner along with some timely hitting late in the game gave the Red and White an 8-3 lead entering the ninth at Buffalo, but the Bulls rallied for five runs to force extra innings. Rain halted play after 10 innings with the score tied 8-8, sending the conclusion to Saturday. (Recap) With a day to sleep off the shocking ninth, the Red and White came to the park and quickly finished things off on Matt Honchel's RBI single in the top of the 11th while Banks picked up his second-straight save. Miami then jumped back to the diamond and used two Chad Sedio homers and three extra base hits from John Crummy to jump ahead 8-2 and eventually hold onto a 9-7 win. (Recap) The RedHawks finished off the weekend sweep thanks to a career-best eight innings and eight strikeouts from Charles Zubrod. Crummy notched three more hits and Ryan Elble drove in three runs to pace MU to a 5-4 victory. Last Week: The eighth seeded Miami softball team kept top seed Ball State’s high-powered offense in check for the majority of the contest, but a four-run sixth inning led to a 7-4 Cardinal win in the opener of the Mid-American Conference Tournament on Wednesday. (Recap) Miami was eliminated from the MAC Tournament on Thursday after it fell to Kent State, 4-1. (Recap) Earlier in the week, three RedHawks earned postseason honors as senior second baseman Kristy Arbour was named to the All-MAC First Team, while sophomore outfielder Taylor Shuey and sophomore designated player/pitcher Jenna Modic were each named Second-Team All-MAC. Women’s Tennis

Last Week: Despite a hard-fought effort, the Miami women’s tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to host Northwestern in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday afternoon. (Recap) This Week: Season concluded.

Men's Track and Field

Last Week: In its final tune up before the Mid-American Conference Championships, Miami claimed two event wins at the Billy Hayes Invitational on Saturday. Sam Spallinger claimed gold in the long jump 24-0 3/4 while the 4x400m team of Adam Bodrick, Robert Balzano, Jahquil Hargrove and Skyler Coburn finished the relay in 3:12.66. Miami’s men’s and women’s track and field teams will be in action this week when they head to the Mid-American Conference Championships May 15-17 in Athens, Ohio.

Miami University Athletics and the Miami University Alumni Association have announced the schedule for the 2014 Coaches Caravan. The RedHawks will travel to Columbus, Cincinnati and Dayton. All events are free to the public, but we do ask for fans to RSVP in advance, by clicking HERE.

Miami’s men’s basketball program signed Chris Bryant to a national letter-of-intent last week. (Release)

Two RedHawk football players signed free agent deals last week. Defensive back Dayonne Nunley signed a free agent deal with the San Diego Chargers (Release), while defensive tackle Austin Brown signed a free agent deal with the Houston Texans. (Release)
