CLEVELAND, Ohio—Seven Miami University women’s swimmers and divers earned Academic All-Mid-American Conference honors as voted upon by the league’s faculty athletic representatives, the conference office announced Wednesday afternoon (April 30).

Junior Katie Bootsma, senior Nikki Craft, senior Cynthia Donovan, senior Brianna Fujan, junior Annie Marquiss, junior Stephanie Pearce and sophomore Emma Szczupakiewicz earned Academic All-MAC honors giving Miami the highest number of selections on the women’s team.

Bootsma owns a 3.70 GPA and majors in bioengineering. In the 100 backstroke, Bootsma earned first-place finishes against Eastern Michigan, Bowling Green and Akron over the course of the season. She also added second-place finishes against Ball State and Buffalo. In the 200 backstroke, she was a first-place finisher against Eastern Michigan, Ball State, Akron and Buffalo, highlighting a successful season.

Craft owns a 3.60 GPA and majors in special education. Craft’s season was highlighted by numerous first and second place finishes. In both the one-meter and three-meter dive, Craft took first against Ohio, Bowling Green, Evansville, Ball State, Buffalo and Cincinnati. She finished in second-place in both events against Eastern Michigan and at the MAC Championships. She was also recognized as a member of the All-MAC Second Team for her season.

Donovan owns a 3.81 GPA and majors in nutrition and kinesiology. Donovan earned first-place finishes in the 50 freestyle against Ohio, Eastern Michigan, Ball State, Cincinnati and Akron. At the Miami Invitational, Donovan took first in the 50 freestyle, 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay. She also contributed to wins in the 200 freestyle relay against Ohio, Bowling Green, Buffalo and Cincinnati. Donovan earned a win against Eastern Michigan in the 200 medley relay this season.

Fujan owns a 3.77 GPA and majors in mass communications. Fujan season was highlighted with victories in the 200 medley relay against Eastern Michigan and in the 200 backstroke against Bowling Green. She contributed to second-place finishes in the 200 medley relay against Ball State, Evansville and Akron. Fujan earned second-place finishes in the 100 backstroke against Bowling Green and Cincinnati. She was a third-place finisher against Eastern Michigan, Ball State and Buffalo in the 100 backstroke.

Marquiss owns a 3.75 GPA and majors in zoology and French. Marquiss was a major contributor in the 200 freestyle relay, earning victories against Ohio, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Buffalo and at the Miami Invitational. She took first, individually, in the 50 freestyle against Bowling Green and Evansville, with second-place finishes against Ohio, Eastern Michigan, Cincinnati and Buffalo. She took third in the event against Ball State and at the Miami Invitational and MAC Championships. Marquiss also took first in the 100 freestyle against Ohio and Eastern Michigan.

Pearce owns 3.80 GPA and majors in secondary education. Pearce took first against Ball State in the 500 freestyle and took second against Ohio, Eastern Michigan, Buffalo, Cincinnati and at both the Miami Invitational and MAC Championships. She was also a first-place finisher in the 1650 freestyle against Bowling Green and at the Miami Invitational and took second against Buffalo. Pearce took first in the 1000 freestyle against Eastern Michigan and Cincinnati with second-place finishes against Ohio and Ball State. She was also selected for the All-MAC Second Team.

Szczupakiewicz owns a 3.94 GPA and majors in political science. Szczupakiewicz earned a first-place finish in the 200 backstroke at the Miami Invitational and finished second and third against Ball State and Buffalo, respectively. She also took first in the 200 backstroke at the Miami Invitational with second-place finishes against Ohio, Bowling Green, Ball State, Buffalo and Akron. She contributed to a win in the 200 medley relay against Eastern Michigan as well.

Sophomore Sara Krueger and seniors Michaela Scott and Nicole Wagner were recognized as Academic All-MAC Honorable Mentions.
