CLEVELAND—On the heels of capturing the program’s sixth straight regular-season Mid-American Conference title, the Miami University women’s tennis team had three individuals earn postseason MAC accolades, the conference office announced Wednesday afternoon (April 23).

Freshman Andreea Badileanu was named the MAC Freshman of the Year and also earned Second-Team All-MAC plaudits, while head coach Anca Dumitrescu was tabbed MAC Coach of the Year. Senior Nimisha Mohan was the other RedHawk to garner postseason recognition with her selection to the All-MAC First Team.

Badileanu becomes the fifth RedHawk to capture MAC Freshman of the Year honors and the first since Anastasia Dracheva and Monica Gorny earned the award in back-to-back years in 2008 and 2009, respectively. Badileanu primarily played No. 2 singles for the RedHawks this season, posting a 5-2 record in MAC action, all at the second flight. On the season, Badileanu forged a 16-4 singles record, notching a 12-4 record at No. 2 and a 4-0 mark at No. 3 singles.

This is Mohan’s second straight year on the All-MAC First Team. Mohan posted a 5-3 singles record in MAC play, all coming at No. 1 singles. Battling back from an early season injury, Mohan worked her way back up the lineup from No. 4 to No. 1 singles and compiled a 13-8 record on the season, including a 9-6 mark at the first flight.

In MAC play, Mohan and Badileanu teamed up to amass a 7-0 record in doubles action, going 6-0 at No. 2 and 1-0 at No. 1. On the season, Mohan was 12-7 in doubles action and Badileanu was 12-6.

This is the third time in four seasons at the helm of the Miami program that Dumitrescu has been named the MAC Coach of the Year, earning the honor in 2011 and 2012. She becomes just the second coach in Miami women’s tennis history to earn the honor three times in a career, joining Ray Reppert (1996, 1998, 1999). Under Dumitrescu, Miami has forged a 30-2 MAC record, winning MAC regular-season titles all four years and seizing the MAC Tournament crown in 2013 to advance to the NCAA Tournament for just the third time in program history.

Miami, the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament, will host the 2014 MAC Championships this weekend at the Hepburn Varsity Courts. The tournament will run April 25-27, and the RedHawks (15-6; 7-1 MAC) will play their first match at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 26 against the winner of the No. 4 Buffalo/No. 5 Toledo match up.
