CLEVELAND – Junior Anna Lamb is impressive both on the track and in the classroom. Because of her outstanding athletic and academic achievements, the Granville, Ohio native was named to the 2014 Indoor Track and Field Academic All-Mid-American Conference team, the league office announced Tuesday.
Lamb was the lone RedHawk to garner Academic All-MAC honors and make the 33-woman team. Kent State led the way with seven honorees, followed by Eastern Michigan and Western Michigan with four. Central Michigan, Northern Illinois, Ohio, and Toledo all tied for third with three honorees each making the squad.
This is Lamb’s fourth Academic All-MAC honor of her career, receiving the accolade in the fall for cross country and last season for both indoor and outdoor track and field. She also helped her team to All-Academic Team distinction by the U.S. Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association last year, while being named to the USTFCCCA’s All-Academic Track & Field Team, herself. The kinesiology major boasts a 3.92 grade-point average, and was named MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week once during the indoor season.
The junior had several strong showings during the winter, opening her first indoor meet with a second-place finish in the 3000m at the Kentucky Invitational, clocking a time of 9:54.17. Lamb went on to win the 5000m at the Tom Wright Classic in 17:01.35, with her time converted to 16:53.59. She improved her time in the first day of the 2014 MAC Championship, taking third in the event in 16:48.47. She then garnered a spot on Miami’s all-time indoor top-10 list in the 3000m during the second and final day of the conference meet, placing runner-up with a career-high 9:44.49.
To be nominated for Academic All-MAC, a student-athlete not only needs to hold at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA, but must also have competed in at least half of the team’s meets. Only an athlete’s athletic and academic accomplishments from the current season are considered for the award, and all nominees are voted on by the league’s faculty athletic representatives.
