CLEVELAND – The Mid-American Conference announced its weekly softball awards on Monday. For Miami, senior catcher Kayla Ledbetter was named MAC East Division Player of the Week. It is the first time this season and fifth time in her career she has been honored with this award.

Ledbetter was Miami’s top hitter this week, finishing 10-for-18 (.556) with one home run and six RBIs. She had an impressive slugging percentage of .778 for the week and scored three runs. Ledbetter had hits in all five games the RedHawks played. Against NKU on Wednesday, she drove in two runs on a single in the bottom of the fourth. After giving contributing three hits in the opener against Toledo on Friday, she had a home run and three RBI to lead Miami to an 11-5 win in the nightcap. Ledbetter also had three hits in two games against Bowling Green over the weekend. She had a sacrifice fly and a stolen base over the week, and was perfect behind the plate with a 1.000 fielding percentage (32 putouts and three assists).

Miami returns to action on Friday when it travels to Western Michigan for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
