CLEVELAND, Ohio – Miami University sophomore distance runner Joe Stewart (Naperville, Ill./Metea Valley) from the men’s track and field program was named the Mid-American Conference’s Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week on Wednesday.

Stewart had a strong debut to the outdoor track and field season at last weekend’s Wake Forest Invitational. The sophomore won his first-collegiate outdoor 5000m with a time of 14:37.53. Stewart’s time was the fastest one clocked by a MAC runner on the first weekend of outdoor competition.

Off the track, Stewart maintains a 3.88 grade-point average as a business major. This is the first time he has won the weekly award in his career.

Stewart and the RedHawks are back in action this weekend when they compete in the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational in Cincinnati. The meet runs on Friday and Saturday.
