CLEVELAND – Miami University senior third baseman Dan Walsh (Downers Grove, Ill./South) was named the Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Walsh reached base two or more times in all four of the RedHawks’ games last week, helping the team post a 3-1 record during their four-game home stand. He finished the week batting .467 (7-for-15) with a .550 on-base percentage and a team-high five RBI. He served the role as hero in a March 18 win over Northern Kentucky, reaching base three times and lacing a clutch walk-off single to give Miami a 7-6 win. He opened MAC play with a bang, going 4-for-5 with two RBI in an 11-3 victory over Western Michigan last Friday. After posting a 1-for-3 performance on Saturday, the senior finished the weekend by going 1-for-3 with a walk and two RBI in a 7-6 walk-off win over the Broncos on Sunday, helping the RedHawks clinch a series win. In addition to the seven hits, Walsh drew three walks and did not strike out once in 15 at-bats.
This is the fourth-straight week that Miami has earned a weekly MAC East award. Walsh’s honor marks the first time in his career that he has nabbed MAC East Player of the Week.
The Red and White begin a seven-game road trip when they start a two-game midweek series at Tennessee Tech on Tuesday.
