OXFORD, Ohio—Miami’s men’s swimming and diving team travels to the University at Buffalo in Buffalo, N.Y. this week to compete in the Mid-American Conference Championships, being held at the Alumni Arena Natatorium from Thursday, Mar. 6, through Saturday, Mar. 8. Preliminary events begin at 11 a.m. each morning with the finals taking place in the evenings beginning at 7 p.m.

The RedHawks enter the MAC Championships with a 5-3 overall record and a 2-2 MAC conference dual meet record. Miami is currently coming off a 1-2 finish to the season after a 4-1 start. Their most recent three meets are losses to Buffalo, 134-166, and Eastern Michigan, 125-175 along with a 135-93 win over Ball State to close out the season. 

The favorites entering this week’s competition are the 7-1 Eastern Michigan Eagles, who have won 21 of the last 25 MAC titles. The RedHawks, however, have won three MAC Championships during that span with the most recent being in 2006. Miami also earned MAC titles in 1997 and 1999. In the preseason, Miami was picked to finish fifth in the MAC, as voted on by MAC coaches, behind Eastern Michigan, Missouri State, Buffalo and Southern Illinois.

For the RedHawks, freshman Grant Stafford, sophomore Evan Bader and sophomore Jacob Prodoehl, for the RedHawks, each earned MAC Swimmer of the Week honors over the course of the season.
