OXFORD, Ohio – The Miami University men’s track and field team will have one final indoor meet at the Ohio State Tune-Up Friday before opening its 2014 outdoor season at the Wake Forest Invitational in March. The Ohio State Tune-Up is hosted by The Ohio State University at the French Field House.
Miami takes on a competitive 26-team field, including neighboring school Cincinnati, with meet action getting underway at 4 p.m. with the shot put, high jump, and long jump. The track heats up at 5:10 p.m. with the 60m hurdles preliminaries, and the meet concludes with the 4x400m relay scheduled for 8:35 p.m.
At last year’s Ohio State Tune-Up, the RedHawks posted nine top-five finishes, beginning with now-graduated Jarrod Eick who won the 1000m run in a personal-best 2:29.68, followed by senior Wade Coffin who took second, also clocking a personal-best time of 2:30.73. Senior Kevin Brown earned runner-up in the 600m run in 1:21.72, while sophomore Joey Comisford took fifth in 1:22.51. Alum Brett Wagner rounded out Miami’s top track finishes, placing fifth in the 3000m with a time of 8:32.53
Miami also had strong representation in field action, as sophomore Peter Stefanski took second in the high jump and alum Sam Wildeman finished third in the pole vault. The RedHawks concluded last season’s tune-up with a fifth-place finish in the 4x400 relay.
Miami started its 2014 season at the Hoosier Hills Invitational last weekend, with Brown leading the way in the team’s first of two indoor meets of the season. The senior dominated the 600m run, clocking a time of 1:22.12 to clinch the win. Sophomore Andrew Fockler finished third in the event (1:23.42), followed by junior Skyler Coburn who took fourth (1:23.59), and Comisford who finished fifth (1:23.65). Sophomore Adam Bodrick also earned a top-five finish at the invitational, taking fourth in the 400m dash with a time of 50.24.
Stefanski earned Miami’s top finish in field events, placing runner-up in the high jump with a mark of 2.12m. Freshman Austin had an impressive collegiate debut, placing third in the long jump with a mark of 6.95m.
Following Friday’s Ohio State Tune-Up, the RedHawks have four weeks of training before opening their outdoor season Friday, Mar. 21 at the Wake Forest Invitational.
