DADE CITY, Fla. - The Miami men’s golf team will participate in the third annual Mid-American Match Play tournament beginning Monday.  This two-day tournament will take place at Lake Jovita South Course with a par-72 7,153 yard design and will feature 54 holes of match play competition. Each team match will consist of six individual matches.

"Everyone's really excited to get down to Florida, enjoy the warm weather and finally have the opportunity to compete again,” said Head Coach Zac Zedrick. “Although the weather hasn't cooperated, we haven't missed a beat. We've taken advantage of our indoor facilities and some opportunities to hit outdoors in heated bays, so physically we're ready.”

Playing for the RedHawks this tournament will be freshman Jared Hammons, sophomore Jack Sparling, juniors Scott Cahill and Luke Shaughnessy and seniors Mark MacDonald and Austin Kelly. They are part of an eight-team field that includes Eastern Michigan, Ball Sate, Eastern Kentucky, Toledo, Xavier, Bowling Green and Ohio. According to Golfstat’s rankings, Eastern Michigan is seeded first going into the tournament, followed by Ball State at second and Miami University at third. Monday morning the RedHawks will be competing against sixth-seed Xavier University in the first-round match.

“We'll be knocking off a little competitive rust, but the field features Northern and Midwestern schools,” said Coach Zedrick. “If we focus on controlling what we can control and play with confidence, then we'll be fine."
