OXFORD, Ohio – In its first dual match of the 2014 season, the Miami University women’s tennis team hosts Xavier at 4:30 p.m. Sunday. The indoor match will take place at Riverside Athletic Club in Hamilton, Ohio.

Miami enters the 2014 season as the preseason favorite based on a poll conducted by Mid-American Conference head tennis coaches. In 2012-13, the RedHawks won both the regular-season title and the MAC Tournament championship, securing a berth in the NCAA Tournament. Miami fell to Stanford in the first round of the NCAA Tournament and the Cardinal went on to win the NCAA Championship.

Miami returns six of their seven players from last season’s squad while adding two freshmen in Andreea Badileanu and Diana Suarez.

During the fall portion of the 2013-14 season, Miami competed in four different tournaments and also participated in the Purdue Invitational last weekend. In that span, RedHawk individuals combined to go 62-46 in tournament singles play while finishing 15-26 in doubles action.

Miami returns home for two more dual matches next weekend when it takes on Wright State Friday, Jan. 31 at 6 p.m. and then plays host to Cincinnati on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 2 p.m.
