The Mid-American Conference office announced its All-MAC team on Wednesday, Dec. 4, with four Miami University RedHawks earning honors. Dayonne Nunley and Zac Murphy earned first-team, while Kent Kern and Wes Williams were named second-team.
Nunley earned first-team status for the third consecutive year, finishing this season with 88 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, one interception and 13 pass break-ups. The senior’s top performance of the season came versus in-state rival Cincinnati in which he had 10 tackles, an interception and three pass break-ups. He also added double-digit tackles versus Akron (11), Ohio (10) and Kent State (11).
Murphy finished the year fourth in the nation in punting average (46.6) and had 25 punts of over 50 yards and downed another 18 inside the opponent’s 20-yard line. In week two versus Kentucky the senior averaged 47.6 yards per punt and had four punts of over 50 yards and downed another four kicks inside the Wildcat’s 20-yard line. The next week Murphy averaged 52.4 versus Cincinnati, which included an 84-yard boot, the longest punt in Yager Stadium history.
Kern led the RedHawks in tackles, finishing the year with 98 stops. The sophomore chipped in with 5.0 tackles for loss and added two pass break-ups. The middle linebacker recorded double digit tackles versus Marshall (13), Cincinnati (15), Central Michigan (12), Massachusetts (10) and Ohio (10).
Williams finished his senior season with 40 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, three sacks and a forced fumble. Williams’ top performance of the season came versus Central Michigan in which he had five tackles and two sacks. He also had seven tackles and a sack versus Bowling Green.
