OXFORD, Ohio—Miami’s men’s swimming and diving team returns to action, hosting the 20th Annual Miami Invitational against Cincinnati, Denison, Wright State, Emory and Urbana at the Nixon Aquatic Center from Thursday, Dec. 5, through Saturday, Dec. 7. The Miami Invitational kicks off at 6 p.m. on Thursday.

The RedHawks are coming off a 145.5-151.5 loss to Purdue on Nov. 22, but are still 2-1 behind great early season performances from sophomore Evan Bader, freshman Grant Stafford, senior Michael Cavanaugh and sophomore Christopher Dieter.

Bader is a two-time MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week and a one-time MAC Swimmer of the Week. He has won an event in every meet this season. He is coming off two first-place finishes against Purdue in the 100 and 200 breaststroke.

Stafford is another athlete who has won an event in every meet this season after swimming to two first-place finishes against Purdue in the 200 butterfly and the 500 freestyle.

Cavanaugh and Dieter have been key contributors to the RedHawks’ success as well. Both earned a second and third-place finish against the Boilermakers. Dieter was undefeated in the 200 freestyle this season before finishing second in the event in West Lafayette against Purdue. Cavanaugh’s second-place finish was in the 100 butterfly.

Meet the Competition

Cincinnati: The Bearcats are 1-2 on the season, with their most recent dual meets being losses to Virginia Tech and Western Kentucky on Nov. 2 and Nov. 9, respectively. Cincinnati recently swam in the Pittsburgh Invitational on Nov. 22 through Nov. 24 where they finished second.

Denison: The Denison Big Red are 4-2 in dual meets this season with tough losses to Ohio State and Virginia Tech. Denison is coming off a close win against Kenyon, 153.5-146.5, on Nov. 2. The Big Red are the top-ranked Division III men’s team in the country according to the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA).

Wright State: The Raiders are 8-1 with their last meet on Nov. 9 against IUPUI where they won 156.5-143.5. Freshman Clement Quilliec has been great for the Raiders this season. He is a two-time Horizon League Male Swimmer of the Week.  

Emory: The Eagles are 2-2 in dual meets this season. Their last dual meet was Nov. 15 against Georgia where they were defeated 73-137. The Eagles are the third-ranked Division III men’s team in the country according to the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA).

Urbana: The Blue Knights are currently 6-5. Their last competition was at the Ohio Wesleyan University’s Corbiere/Marion Invitational where they finished fourth of five teams. The Blue Knights have won their last three dual meets heading into Thursday’s Miami Invitational.
