COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Sophomore goalie Ryan McKay’s (Palatine, Ill./Green Bay (USHL)) stellar play over the weekend netted him some hardware from the National Collegiate Hockey Conference.
McKay was tabbed the NCHC’s Co-Goalie of the Week on Monday. He is sharing the honor with Denver’s Sam Brittain. The Palatine, Ill., native stopped 64 of 66 shots for a 1.01 to help the RedHawks pull off a road split at No. 3/4 St. Cloud State last weekend.
On Friday night, McKay stopped all 31 SCSU shots for his second-straight shutout in a 2-0 MU victory. He got the call in net the next night and responded with 33 saves on 35 shots. His play in goal was a big key in the RedHawks’ perfect 10-for-10 performance on the penalty kill. Also of note is that McKay put together a personal shutout streak that lasted 182:28, spanning parts of four games.
McKay and the No. 8 RedHawks host No. 12 Wisconsin this weekend. Friday’s game is televised nationally on CBS Sports Network and starts at 6:30 p.m.
