OXFORD, Ohio—Miami’s men’s swimming and diving team faces off against Ohio State Saturday, Nov. 9, at 11 a.m. in the Nixon Aquatic Center. The RedHawks are looking for their third straight win to begin the season.
Incredible individual performances propelled Miami to a win last Saturday over Cleveland State, 174.5-123.5, as the RedHawks won 11 of 16 events against the Vikings.
Sophomore Evan Bader led the RedHawks as he earned 31 points from two individual wins in the 100 and 200 breaststroke, a 200 medley relay win, and a fourth-place finish in the 200 IM. For his performance, Bader was named the Mid-American Conference Swimmer of the Week.
Freshman Grant Stafford has also been impressive early this season. Stafford contributed to the 200 medley relay win with Bader, sophomore Sean Neri and senior Dan Nemeth, and also swept the butterfly events against the Vikings. Stafford won the 100 freestyle against Xavier in the men’s only other contest this season.
Sophomore Chris Dieter won both the 200 freestyle and the 500 freestyle against Cleveland State and looks to continue his success against the Buckeyes this weekend.
The No. 11 Buckeyes are 5-0, coming off wins over Cleveland State, Denison and Virginia Tech last week. They defeated Cleveland State 201-91, Denison 202-90 and Virginia Tech 156.5-135.5. The Buckeyes travel to West Lafayette, Ind. on Friday, Nov. 8, to take on Iowa, Northwestern and Purdue the day before their road meet with the RedHawks.
When these two teams met last season, Miami lost to the Buckeyes, 112-140, in Columbus, Ohio.
