OXFORD, Ohio--The Miami RedHawks women’s swimming and diving team travels to Akron Saturday, Oct. 26, to kickoff Mid-American Conference competition against the Zips in the Oliver J. Ocasek Natatorium at 1 p.m.
The RedHawk women are coming off a busy weekend, losing their home opener to Purdue, 177-116, Friday night, but then rebounding to win, 158-95, against Xavier on Saturday. The RedHawks are looking to maintain momentum, in their first road contest of the season, after winning all 14 events they competed in against Xavier.
Freshman Stephanie LeMire was impressive in her first meet as a RedHawk against Purdue, winning the 100 breast, finishing second in the 200 breast and third in the 200 IM. LeMire also was a member of the 200 medley relay team, with sophomore Emma Szczupakiewicz, senior Brianna Fujan and senior Cynthia Donovan, that finished second against Purdue.
LeMire and Szczupakiewicz were great against Xavier as both contributed to a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay, with sophomore Kate Bootsma and Donovon. Szczupakiewicz also went on to win, both, the 100 back and 200 back.
Akron recently competed at Tom Stubbs Relays at Bowling Green State University, but Saturday will be its first home dual meet of the 2013-14 season. Akron’s new head coach, Brian Peresie, inherits a team headlined by first-team All-MAC swimmer, Catherine Carr.
Miami defeated Akron last season, 175-114, in route to the RedHawks' 17th MAC Championship.
