Football

Last Week: Miami held a 9-7 lead midway through the third quarter, but two late second-half touchdowns by Central Michigan handed the Chippewas a 21-9 win on Saturday afternoon at Yager Stadium. Senior quarterback Austin Boucher passed for 161 yards, completing 12-of-26 attempts with no interceptions, while redshirt freshman quarterback Austin Gearing led the RedHawks with 108 yards rushing on 15 carries. Defensively, sophomore linebacker Kent Kern led all players with 12 tackles and had six solo stops. (Recap) Miami University Athletics Director David Sayler announced that Mike Bath will serve as interim head football coach for the remainder of the 2013 season. Bath has been a player, graduate assistant and assistant coach for the RedHawks over the past decade. (Release) This Week: Miami hits the road for a 3 p.m. game at Massachusetts on Saturday, Oct. 12.

Hockey

Last Week: After a six-month offseason, No. 2 Miami quickly shook off any rust and skated to an 8-2 win over Windsor in an exhibition tune-up Saturday night at Steve Cady Arena. Sophomore forward Riley Barber and freshman Justin Greenberg scored two goals apiece to lead the RedHawks in the team’s highest scoring output since an eight-goal performance against Lake Superior State on Feb. 25, 2011. (Recap) This Week: Miami opens the 2013-14 season on Oct. 11 and 12 in a home-and-home series against former CCHA rival Ohio State. The RedHawks travel to Columbus on Friday at 7:05 p.m. before returning home to take on the Buckeyes Saturday night.

Soccer

Last Week: Miami battled rival Ohio University to a 1-1 tie in double overtime Friday evening with a blistering goal in the final nine minutes of the first half by sophomore midfielder Jess Bronke that evened the match and gave the two teams the draw. (Recap) Miami overcame a speedy Kent State team and a rain-soaked field to extend its unbeaten streak to three games with a 1-0 win Sunday at the Miami Soccer Field. Senior Kayla Zakrzewski scored from 10 yards out for her fourth goal of the year with 14:17 remaining on the clock in the first half. (Recap) This Week: Miami’s 2-1-1 MAC record puts the team in first place in the league’s East Division and fourth overall behind Western Michigan (4-0-0), Eastern Michigan (4-0-0) and Ball State (3-1-0).  The RedHawks take on the top two teams in the conference next weekend as they travel to face the Broncos on Friday, Oct. 11 followed by the Eagles on Sunday, Oct. 13.

Volleyball

Last Week: Miami (8-8 overall, 0-4 MAC) dropped a pair of tough Mid-American Conference matches on the road this past weekend. The RedHawks were able to take a set off of 20th-ranked Ohio on its home court on Friday, but ultimately they fell, 1-3 (18-25, 25-21, 18-25, 15-25). (Recap) Miami then fell, 0-3 (21-25, 22-25, 26-28) to Kent State Saturday evening. (Recap) This Week: The RedHawks begin a two-week, four-match homestand this week. On Friday, Miami hosts Akron at 7 p.m. The Red and White then take on Buffalo Saturday at 5 p.m.

Field Hockey

Last Week: Miami won in its only game last week with a 2-0 shutout of Michigan State on Sunday. Carla Romagosa had a goal and an assist in the victory. (Recap) The RedHawks originally-scheduled game at Ohio on Saturday, Oct. 5 was postponed to Oct. 23 due to problems with the Bobcats’ field (Release) This Week: The RedHawks begin Mid-American Conference action on Friday when they host Ball State at 5:30 p.m.

Golf

Last Week: The golf team was idle this week. This Week: The team returns to action on Monday when it participates in the Firestone Invitational. The RedHawks will play 36 holes on Monday and finish the event with one final round of 18 holes on Tuesday.

Women’s Cross Country

Last Week: Miami split its squad this week to compete in two different races. Racing against 277 competitive runners from universities and colleges all across the state, the RedHawks battled to a fourth-place finish at the All-Ohio Championship last Friday. Hosted by Cedarville University at the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course, the RedHawks finished with a total of 137 points. (Recap) Junior Jess Hoover continued to pace Miami after placing first for the RedHawks at the Greater Louisville Classic on Saturday. The 5K meet was hosted by the Louisville Sports Commission at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park. (Recap) This Week: The team is off this week and returns to action on Oct. 19 when it competes in the Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind.

Men’s Cross Country

Last Week: For a fourth consecutive meet, senior Dave Wing finished as the top scorer for the Miami University men’s cross country team at the All-Ohio Championship last Friday. Hosted by Cedarville University at the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course, the RedHawks finished third overall with 119 points. (Recap) This Week: The team is off this week and returns to action on Oct. 19 when it competes in the Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind.

Softball concludes fall exhibition play on Thursday when it hosts Miami-Hamilton for a 10-inning game beginning at 6:30 p.m.
