OXFORD, Ohio – Miami women’s tennis performed well at home on Day 1 of the Miami Invitational. RedHawk players combined to win two of their three doubles matches against Bowling Green, six of their seven singles matches against Xavier and four of six singles matches against Louisville in the round-robin action.
Miami started the morning off with doubles action against Bowling Green. In No. 1 doubles, junior Alix Thurman and junior Christine Guerrazzi defeated Emily Reuland and Harley Hutchison of BGSU by a score of 8-2. Sophomore Ana Rajkovic and freshman Andreea Badileanu fell in No. 2 doubles to Bowling Green’s Nikki Chiricosta and Katie Brozovich. Sophomore Ramona Costea and senior Christiana Raymond won their No. 3 doubles set 8-2 over the Falcons’ Hannah Drayton and Drew Fillis.
Miami players faced off against Xavier in their first singles round of the day. Raymond won No. 1 singles 6-3, 6-2 over the Muskie’s Alex Brinker. Badileanu came out victorious in a No. 2 singles match that lasted more than four hours, ending in a score of 6-7 (2-7), 7-6 (7-4), 7-5. Thurman won No. 3 singles 6-3, 6-1 while Guerrazzi won at No. 4 singles 7-5, 6-1. Cristina DiLorenzo of Xavier downed Rajkovic at No. 5 singles 6-4, 6-2. Costea and freshman Chloe Heerden wrapped things up at No. 6 and No. 7 singles by scores of 6-4, 6-3 and 6-2, 6-2,s respectively.
The RedHawks concluded action Saturday afternoon with a singles round against Louisville. Thurman dropped the No. 1 singles bout to the Cardinals’ Rebecca Shine 6-0, 6-0. Raymond won her match 7-5, 6-3 at No. 2 singles while Guerrazzi defeated her opponent at No. 3 singles 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 and Badileanu came out victorious at No. 5 singles 6-4, 7-5. Louisville’s Chloe Willetts downed Costea 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 at No. 5 singles. Heerden won her No. 6 singles matchup 6-3, 6-0.
The Miami Invitational continues Sunday morning at 8 a.m. The tournament’s final day consists of one singles round followed by two doubles rounds. Admission to Miami tennis is free.
