BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Miami University field hockey team travels to Bloomington, Ind. this weekend for a pair of tough games against Big Ten opponents. The RedHawks will take on host Indiana on Friday at 3 p.m. Miami then faces eighth-ranked Penn State Saturday at 2 p.m. in a neutral site contest.
The RedHawks (5-4) pushed their record above .500 for the first time this season with a 4-1 victory over UC Davis on Tuesday. Junior back Ali Froede scored twice early in the second half to break a scoreless tie and lead Miami to a victory.
After dropping its first two games of the season, Indiana has won five in a row, outscoring its opponents 24-2 during the stretch. The Hoosiers have allowed only eight goals in seven games this season. In their last action on Sept. 21, they defeated Ohio, 3-1. Indiana is led by junior forward Audra Heilman. She has six goals and five assists for 17 points this season.
Continuing to play one of the most difficult schedules in the country, eighth-ranked Penn State will be the sixth ranked opponent Miami has faced so far this season. The Nittany Lions are 5-3 in 2013, having played several top-10 foes. Last weekend, Penn State defeated 16th-ranked Delaware, 5-0, on Friday at home. It then knocked off Lafayette, 3-0, on the road on Sunday. The Nittany Lions are led by junior forward Taylor Herold. She has six goals and two assists for 14 points this season.
