CLEVELAND – The Mid-American Conference announced its weekly field hockey awards on Tuesday. For the first time this season, Miami was able to sweep both awards. Junior midfielder Valentina Neira was named MAC Offensive Player of the Week, while senior goalkeeper Sarah Mueller was named MAC Defensive Player of the Week.

This is the first weekly honor of Neira’s career. She scored what turned into the eventual game-winning goal in a 4-2 victory over Ohio State on Wednesday. Neira also was responsible for nearly all of the seven penalty corner attempts Miami received during the game, causing the opponent to foul in its own circle.

This is the first time this season and fifth time in her career that Mueller has won a MAC weekly award. She made six saves in leading Miami to its victory over the Buckeyes, which was its only game last week. Mueller was especially key in the first half making several important saves. That included stopping a penalty stroke in the 10th minute to keep the RedHawks in front, 1-0.

Miami returns to action Tuesday when it hosts UC Davis in non-conference action at 5:30 p.m.
