OXFORD, Ohio – Senior Dave Wing just keeps racking up awards for the Miami University men’s cross country team. For a second straight week, Wing was named Mid-American Conference Men’s Runner of the Week, the league office announced Thursday.
Wing (Naperville, Ill.) dominated the 2013 Miami Invitational Saturday, Sept. 7, winning the 5K race in 14:55.3. Competing for the first time on the brand new Miami Cross Country Course, Wing improved from his season debut at the Dayton Flyer 5K Challenge, running a faster, stronger race. Although he was Miami’s top scorer at the Flyer 5K, Wing’s time at the Miami Invitational was 44 seconds faster than his 15:39.0 season opener time. Racing against a field of 63 runners from Ohio, Cedarville, Capital, Shawnee State, Miami alumni, and the Miami University cross country club team, Wing led Miami to a second-place finish at the meet. The win was his first individual collegiate victory.
This is the second MAC Runner of the Week Award Wing has received in his career as a RedHawk. He was chosen as Miami’s Male Athlete of the Week for a second consecutive week on Tuesday as well, and was named Second-Team All-MAC last season.
Wing and the rest of the RedHawks are back in action this Saturday when they travel to Lexington, Ky. for the Bluegrass Cross Country Invitational. The men’s race begins at 9:30 a.m.
