Last Week: Miami (0-2) dropped a 41-7 decision at the University of Kentucky in Commonwealth Stadium last Saturday. Miami's lone score was a six-yard fumble recovery by Chris Wade late in the first quarter, Miami's first fumble recovery for a touchdown since 2007. Zac Murphy highlighted Miami's effort, finishing the contest with 11 punts for 524 yards (47.6 avg.). The senior drilled four punts of over 50 yards, including a 66-yard boot. He added another four punts that were downed inside the opponent's 30-yard line. (Recap) For his efforts, Murphy was tabbed the MAC East Division Special Teams Player of the Week. (Release) This Week:Miami off this week before hosting Cincinnati on Sept. 21 at 4 p.m. The game has been declared a White Out and all fans are asked to wear white to the game. (Buy Tickets)
Last Week: Miami (5-0) continued its undefeated start to the season when it captured its Miami Invitational this past weekend. Sophomore middle hitter Jenny Ingle won MVP honors, while junior libero Tori Clifford and junior outside hitter Meg Riley joined her on the All-Tournament Team. The RedHawks opened with a 3-0 (25-11, 25-22, 25-18) win over Evansville on Friday. (Recap) In a dramatic, back-and-forth match the next night that saw Northern Kentucky win the first two sets, the Miami University volleyball earned a come from behind, 3-2 (24-26, 26-28, 25-22, 25-21, 15-13) victory to win its third straight Miami Invitational crown. (Recap) For her efforts over the weekend, Ingle was tabbed MAC East Division Offensive Player of the Week. (Release) This Week: The RedHawks return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Xavier for a non-conference match that begins at 7 p.m. They then travel to St. Louis for the Billiken Invitational over the weekend. On Friday, Miami takes on Saint Louis at 8 p.m. (EDT). On Saturday, the RedHawks face Bradley at 11 a.m. (EDT) and Youngstown State at 5:30 p.m. (EDT).
Last Week: The Miami soccer team split a pair of matches over the weekend, topping IPFW, 3-0, in Fort Wayne on Friday night, before falling to Louisville, 3-2, in overtime in Oxford on Sunday. In the win over the Mastodons, sophomore midfielder Haley Walter scored the first goal, which was the game-winner, while classmate Jess Bronke notched her first collegiate goal as Miami extended its win streak to three matches, all shutouts. (Recap) Sunday, however, the streak was snapped as the RedHawks saw a two-goal lead, including another score from Bronke, slip away early in the second half only to have the Cardinals score five minutes into overtime to hand Miami the 3-2 loss. (Recap) This Week: The RedHawks continue a three-game homestand with a pair of matches at Miami Soccer Field. First, Miami hosts Milwaukee on Friday, Sept. 13 at 4 p.m., before Big Ten foe Purdue comes calling on Sunday, Sept. 15 at 1 p.m. The weekend will serve as Miami Soccer’s Alumni Weekend while the Purdue match will also be Senior Day.
Women’s Cross Country
Last Week: Miami junior Jess Hoover led the RedHawks women’s cross country team to an impressive start to the 2013 season, winning the 2013 Miami Invitational Saturday morning at its own brand new Miami Cross Country Course. Hoover crossed in 17:13.6, while classmate Anna Lamb and redshirt junior Melissa Girgis took second and third to give the RedHawks a top-three sweep. Prior to the meet, Miami officially unveiled its new cross country course with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Alumna Rachel Patterson ‘11 and men’s alumnus Don Kelly ’55 cut the ribbon while men’s alumni Bob Schul ’66 and Bob Hall ’71 held the ribbon. (Recap) This Week: Miami is back in action Friday night, Sept. 13 at the Mel Brodt Collegiate Opener, hosted by Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio. The race starts at 7:10 p.m.
Men’s Cross Country
Last Week: Miami seniors Dave Wing and Matt Marol dominated the 2013 Miami Invitational Saturday morning, finishing 1-2 in the 5K race, which was run on the RedHawks’ brand new cross country course. Wing clocked 14:55.3 to earn his first collegiate win while Marol was right behind in 14:57.6 with his best ever finish in a race. As a team, the RedHawks finished second out of seven teams at the meet, behind rival Ohio. Prior to the meet, Miami officially unveiled its new cross country course with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Women’s alumna Rachel Patterson ‘11 and men’s alumnus Don Kelly ’55 cut the ribbon while men’s alumni Bob Schul ’66 and Bob Hall ’71 held the ribbon. (Recap) Earlier in the week, Wing was named Mid-American Conference Men’s Runner of the Week after taking runner-up honors at the season-opening Flyer 5K Challenge in Dayton. (Release)
This Week: The RedHawks are back on the course Saturday, Sept. 14 at the Bluegrass Cross Country Invitational, hosted by the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Ky. The meet gets underway at 9:30 a.m.
Last Week: Field hockey moved to 2-2 overall when it split its two games last week. On Monday, the team used three first half goals to finished off its opening weekend road trip with a convincing, 4-1, victory over Longwood. (Recap) On Sunday, a hard-fought, defensive battle between the Miami University field hockey team and 16th-ranked Boston University was scoreless until nearly the end, but a goal in the 60th minute gave the Terriers a 1-0 win. (Recap) This Week: Miami continues its challenging non-conference schedule when it takes on 11th-ranked Northwestern on Monday. The RedHawks then head to College Park, Md. next weekend to face American on Saturday at 1 p.m. and second ranked Maryland on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Last Week: Miami finished 13th at the Northern Intercollegiate. Sophomore Jack Sparling was the RedHawks’ top individual at nine-over par in a tie for 33rd place. (Recap) This Week: Miami is off this week. The RedHawks return to action at the Wolverine Intercollegiate, Sept. 16-17.
