CLEVELAND - The Mid-American Conference announced its 2013 preseason volleyball coaches' poll on Tuesday. Miami was picked to finish third in the MAC East Division behind Bowling Green and Ohio.
The defending MAC Tournament Champion Falcons received seven first place votes. The Bobcats, who won the MAC East Division last season, received the other five. Behind the RedHawks, Buffalo, Akron and Kent State rounded out the East Division picks.
The coaches see the MAC West Division as completely up in the air. Western Michigan was the pick to win, but received only five first-place votes. Northern Illinois was picked second, bringing in four first-place votes. Central Michigan was picked third, receiving the other three first-place votes. Ball State, Eastern Michigan and Toledo rounded out the West Division picks.
Bowling Green and Ohio were the picks of four coaches each to win the MAC Tournament Championship. Northern Illinois and Western Michigan each received two votes to win the tournament.
The RedHawks return eight letterwinners from a team that finished 10-20 overall and placed fifth in the MAC East Division. Miami begins its 2013 season on Friday when it takes on Gardner-Webb at 5 p.m. (EDT) to open the Belmont Invitational in Nashville, Tenn.
