OXFORD, Ohio – Coming off a third straight Mid-American Conference championship, Miami University head tennis coach Anca Dumitrescu has agreed to a three-year contract that will keep her in Oxford through the 2015-16 season, Miami Director of Athletics David Sayler announced Friday.

“Miami’s tennis program has been a model of consistency on and off the court under Coach Dumitrescu,” Sayler said. “She has led the RedHawks to conference championships in each of her first three seasons here and the tennis team has proven to be what we are looking for from all of our programs. We wanted to ensure the success of Miami Tennis continues while rewarding Anca for her achievements with a multi-year contract.”

In three years at the helm of Miami Tennis, Dumitrescu has compiled an overall record of 47-29, including an astounding 23-1 mark in Mid-American Conference action. The RedHawks have captured MAC regular-season titles every year under Dumitrescu, including her first year in 2011 and again this past season. In addition, she guided Miami to a MAC Tournament championship and an NCAA Tournament berth in 2013, the program’s first NCAA berth since 2010. In her first two seasons, Miami also made the MAC Tournament championship match, but came up just one point short both years.

“I would like to thank Mr. Sayler for this generous offer,” Dumitrescu said. “I am looking forward to continuing to build this program with his and Miami's support and make a difference in the development and success of our student athletes on and off the court. We have come a long way over the past three years and I believe we have a very exciting future ahead within the MAC, as well as at the national level.”

Dumitrescu is a two-time MAC Coach of the Year, earning the honors in 2011 and 2012 when the RedHawks went undefeated in MAC regular-season play each time. She has also coached seven All-MAC selections during her tenure, including 2012 MAC Player of the Year Stephanie Danesis. Miami has had two Academic All-MAC selections under Dumitrescu’s watch, as well.

Miami returns its entire team from its 2013 MAC championship squad for the 2013-14 campaign. The RedHawks open the fall season Sept. 20-22 at the Ball State Fall Invitational.
