Campus is bustling with activity again as the Class of 2017 and their families embark upon Oxford for Incoming Student Orientation. Summer Orientation is a two-day experience where the newest members of the Miami University family are welcomed and informed about their next four years in Oxford.
Incoming Student Orientation is an opportunity to create excitement for the upcoming athletic seasons and get families engaged with Miami Athletics. On the second day of orientation, families and students visit the Resource Fair at the Farmer School of Business, where several departments across campus provide information and services. However, before one can even make it into the Farmer School of Business, they are welcomed by Miami Athletics. The Sports Marketing Department staff and interns, Athletic Ticket Office staff and student-athletes from various sports line the walkway to welcome the families.
The main focus during Orientation is Family Weekend sales, so families can purchase their Football Foursome ticket packages in June for the game in October. There is also an opportunity for the incoming students to sign up for Red Alert, one of the largest student organizations on campus.
“Orientation provides a great opportunity for Athletics’ staff and student-athletes to work hand-in-hand to promote all the great aspects of Miami University and the college experience” mentions Anthony J Azama, Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing, Sales and Licensing.
Football players Austin Brown, Andrew Kummer and Allen Veazie noted that they like helping to welcome the class and give out our schedule cards. "It is a great opportunity to get involved with the new students,” Allen continued. "It is great to engage with the community and I enjoy putting smiles on the fans' faces.”
