CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Miami senior Brooks Fiala has been named Mid-American Conference East Division Pitcher of the Week for his efforts over the past seven days, the league office announced today. The award is the second this season for the right-hander.

A native of Carmel, Ind., Fiala got the weekend off on a positive note with a 1-0 win over Ball State on Friday night. He threw eight shutout innings, striking out 12 batters -- one shy of his career high.

Fiala allowed just five hits, all singles, and did not walk a batter in holding the Cardinals to a measly .185 batting average for the contest. He threw 115 pitches.

Fiala was also named Pitcher of the Week on March 18 after a 13-strikeout, complete-game effort against Navy during Spring Break.

Miami returns to action tomorrow when it begins a home-and-home series against Dayton.
