Miami continues its nine-game road trip this weekend when it travels to Akron for a Mid-American Conference series. Games are slated for 3 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.

The RedHawks have taken an early lead in the conference race, posting a 5-1 record through two weeks. After a sweep of Eastern Michigan, they took two of three at Toledo last weekend.
Overall, Miami is 12-12 after a 1-0 loss at Ohio State on Wednesday. Akron is 5-21 overall, but 2-4 in league play.

Freshman Jake Romano leads the team in hitting with a .381 average in six appearances. Sophomore Matt Honchel is the top regular in the lineup, batting .360 with 10 RBIs and 24 runs scored. Named MAC East Player of the Week on Monday, he batted .462 against Toledo, scoring six runs and stealing two bases. He enters Friday’s play on a nine-game hitting streak, including seven of those with multiple hits.

Ryan Elble and John Crummy also top the .300 mark. Kevin Bower and Alex Johnson share the team lead in RBIs with 18, while Johnson and Matt Packer have each hit a team-best two home runs.

As a team, Miami is batting .277 with more than a quarter of its hits going for extra bases.

Miami ‘s rotation for the weekend remains the same since Opening Day. Senior Brooks Fiala (3-3, 3.31 ERA) will open Friday’s game, while senior Mac Thoreson (2-3, 6.61) draws Saturday’s assignment. The RedHawks will throw sophomore Nathan Williams (3-1, 3.44) in the finale.
Ohio State will counter with freshman Jake Post on the mound. The right-hander has three appearances (two starts) and an 11.32 ERA. He does not have any decisions.

The team ERA is 5.07, but Miami is holding opponent hittters to a .266 average.
