OXFORD, Ohio – Miami University freshman forward Riley Barber has been named to the CHN All-Rookie Team, College Hockey News announced Wednesday. Barber was among just three forwards and six freshmen nationally named to the All-Rookie Team while Michigan freshman defenseman Jacob Trouba was the only other CCHA player recognized among all of the All-CHN teams.
Barber (Pittsburgh, Pa.) has also earned CCHA Rookie of the Year honors, the first Miamian to win the award, and was the lone unanimous selection to the CCHA All-Rookie Team. He was also the first freshman to earn First-Team All-CCHA honors since 2003-04. The Capitals prospect finished second for Miami and in the entire CCHA with 39 points in 40 games, while his 15 goals were tops on the team and his 24 assists were second. His 24 assists were fourth in the league and tops among all rookies nationally, as are his 39 points, while his 15 goals tie for sixth among freshmen nationally.
Barber was named CCHA Gongshow® Rookie of the Week four times, more than any other freshman, and was tabbed CCHA Gongshow® Rookie of the Month twice (October and November), including Hockey Commissioners' Association National Rookie of the Month in October. In league play, the skilled winger posted 30 points, which was second among all CCHA players, while his 12 goals in league play tied for fourth and his 18 assists in conference action were tied for second. Barber recorded 12 multi-point games on the season, second on the team, including a two-goal game and four multi-assist contests, while tallying three game-winning goals and four power play goals. He also finished with a +12 rating.
Joining Barber and Trouba on the CHN All-Rookie Team were St. Cloud State forward Jonny Brodzinski, Boston University forward Danny O’Regan, Boston College defenseman Mike Matheson and Providence goaltender Jon Gillies, who Miami faced early in the season in a win and a tie against the Friars.
The All-CHN Teams are voted upon by the College Hockey News staff.
