CLEVELAND – Just one outdoor meet was all it took for Miami University freshman Peter Stefanski to win an award as he was named Mid-American Conference Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. The honor is the first of his career.

Making his outdoor collegiate debut, Stefanski (Aurora, Ill.) had a great first meet as he won the high jump at the Black and Gold Invitational, hosted by Vanderbilt University on Saturday. He cleared 2.09m/6-10.25, which matched his personal best from indoor season. He was competing in a field of 14 that included athletes from Ohio State, Louisville, Memphis, DePaul, Western Kentucky, Southern Illinois and others. His height ties for tops in the MAC this season, ties for 15th in the East Region and ties for 32nd nationally. It also qualified him for the MAC Outdoor Championships.

This is the first MAC weekly honor for the RedHawks this year. Miami won five MAC weekly awards last season.

Stefanski and the RedHawks return to competition this weekend at the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational, hosted by the University of Cincinnati Friday and Saturday, March 29-30.
