SAN DIEGO - The Miami University softball team has traveled out west to sunny San Diego for its annual spring break trip. On Wednesday, the 'Hawks will head to San Diego State's stadium for a neutral site game against Southern Utah at 7:30 p.m. (EDT). They will then face host San Diego State at 10 p.m. (EDT). Miami will participate in the San Diego Classic II tournament Thursday through Saturday. On Thursday, the RedHawks take on UT-Arlington at 4 p.m. (EDT). On Friday, Miami will face Seton Hall at 7:30 p.m. (EDT), followed by Long Beach State at 10 p.m. (EDT). MU will complete the trip on Saturday with games against Colorado State at 7:30 p.m. (EDT) and Harvard at 10 p.m. (EDT).

LEDBETTER DRAWS WALKS: Junior catcher Kayla Ledbetter has drawn 16 walks in 15 games this season. Already leading the team with a .342 batting average, her ability to see the strike zone gives her an on base percentage of .537. Ledbetter averages 1.07 walks per game, which ranks fifth in the country.

ABOUT SOUTHERN UTAH: The Thunderbirds are 4-16 on the season. They went 1-4 last weekend at the UC Riverside Tournament, which included a 6-3 defeat to Miami's Mid-American Conference rival Buffalo. Southern Utah's top hitter is senior Mikkel Griffin. She is batting .344 with four home runs and seven RBI. Its top pitcher is junior Ariel Zimmerman. She is 3-8 with a 6.55 ERA in 14 appearances (11 starts).

SERIES WITH THUNDERBIRDS: This is the first meeting between Miami and Southern Utah.

ABOUT SAN DIEGO STATE: The Aztecs are 12-12 on the season. They went 2-3 last weekend at the Fresno State Classic, with all three defeats coming to ranked opponents from the PAC-12. San Diego State's top hitter is junior Laura Bauer. She is batting .387 with six home runs and 21 RBI. Its top pitcher is senior Rebecca Arbino. ABOUT UT-ARLINGTON: The Mavericks are 12-8 on the season. They went 2-3 at their home tournament last weekend, with victories over Lamar and Creighton. UT-Arlington's top hitter is sophomore Meagan Michele. She is batting .364 with two home runs and nine RBI. Its top pitcher is senior Teri Lyles. SERIES WITH MAVERICKS: This the first meeting between Miami and UT-Arlington.

ABOUT SETON HALL: The Pirates are 9-7 on the season. They went 3-1 at the UMBC Dawg Pound Invitational last weekend, with victories over Coppin State, George Washington and Princeton. Seton Hall's top hitter and pitcher is sophomore Danielle DeStaso. She is batting .429 with two home runs and 11 RBI. In the circle she is 7-1 with a 2.66 ERA in 11 appearances (four starts).

SERIES WITH PIRATES: Miami has won both meetings all time with Seton Hall. The games came as part of a doubleheader back in 1985, with the Red and White taking the opener, 2-0, and the nightcap, 10-2.

ABOUT LONG BEACH STATE: The 49ers are 14-9 on the season. They went 2-3 at their home tournament this past weekend, earning victories over Charleston Southern and North Dakota State. LBSU's top hitter is junior Hannah De Gaetano. She is batting .375 with four home runs and 17 RBI. Its top pitcher is junior Erin Jones-Wesley. She is 7-6 with a 3.23 ERA in 14 appearances (14 starts).

SERIES WITH 49ERS: Long Beach State has won both its meetings with Miami. The last came on March 14, 2007, when the 49ers came away with a 5-1 victory.

ABOUT COLORADO STATE: The Rams are 9-12 on the season. They went 2-3 at their home tournament in their last action, earning wins over Bradley and Brown. Colorado State's top hitter is junior Ashlie Ortega. She is batting .364 with five home runs and 19 RBI. Its top pitcher is senior Kacie McCarthy. SERIES WITH RAMS: This is the first meeting between Miami and Colorado State.

SERIES WITH CRIMSON: Miami is 2-0 all-time against Harvard. The teams met last season on March 3 in Clearwater, Fla. with the RedHawks coming away with a 2-1, eight inning win.

Miami opens its home schedule on Tuesday, March 26 when it hosts Morehead State for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. The 'Hawks then begin Mid-American Conference play on Friday, March 29 with a doubleheader at Toledo that starts at 1 p.m.
