CARBONDALE, Ill. - In preliminary competition Friday morning, Coach Pete Lindsay's Miami University swimming team qualified two student-athletes for the evening finals of the Mid-American Conference Championships at Southern Illinois University's Edward Shea Natatorium.

Joe Baumgartner in the 200 freestyle (1:38.39) and Evan Bader in the 100 breaststroke (55.98) will be the RedHawks' biggest point producers. Divers Mike Grainger (289.60)and Chris Hoppler (245.55) competed in three-meter diving prelims Friday morning and will be in Saturday's finals.

Miami enters Friday night's competition in fourth place.

Alex Reinhardt (4:03.08) and Sean Minderlein (4:06.71) will swim in Friday night's consolation finals of the 400 individual medley.

Michael Cavanaugh (50.76) is Miami's only consolation finals swimmer in the 100 butterfly.

Two RedHawk swimmers, Chris Dieter (1:39.34) and Andy Kilkenny (1:41.13), will swim in the 200 freestyle consolations. Ian Joyce (1:41.58) and Jake Prodoehl (1:42.19) narrowly missed the opportunity to score points.

Miami will be well represented in the 100 breaststroke consolation finals with Sam Crockett (56.67), Jonathan Profitt (57.75) and Will Olson (58.20) all swimming.

Davis Staley (50.18) and Mike Kline (50.80) both will swim in the consolation finals of the 100 backstroke. Ian Joyce (51.47), Sean Neri (51.52) and Sam Flessner (51.58) barely missed the qualifying mark.

Finally, in three-meter diving, Michael Nash (324.85) qualified for the consolation finals in that event.

The MAC Championships conclude on Saturday night.
