MACON, Ga. -- Facing one of the hottest teams in the country, Miami dropped both ends of a doubleheader Saturday at Mercer, falling 9-6 and 11-0. The RedHawks fell to 2-6 overall after suffering a three-game sweep and their first shutout of the year.

Miami trailed 9-1 in the opener before trying to rally. The RedHawks scored five times in the seventh, highlighted by a a pair of home runs. Matt Packer led off with a shot over the wall in left, before Matt Honchel registered an RBI single four batters later. On the next pitch, Nate Bowles hit a three-run bomb to left.

Mac Thoreson (0-2) took the loss for Miami, allowing eight runs and 11 hits in 5.1 innings.

Grant Papelian (2-1) earned the win, pitching into the seventh, while Demitri Kourtis picked up his second save.

In the nightcap, Miami managed just one hit off Mercer starter D.J. Johnson (1-1), a seventh-inning single by Packer. Nathan Williams (1-1) suffered the loss for Miami, lasting just two innings
