CLEVELAND - The Mid-American Conference announced its weekly softball awards on Tuesday. Junior catcher Kayla Ledbetter (Gahanna, Ohio) was named MAC East Division Player of the Week. It is her first weekly MAC honor this season and third for her career.
Ledbetter had a fantastic week, finishing with a .500 batting average that included two home runs and a double. She drew an incredible 10 walks in 18 plate appearances to record an on base percentage of .778. Thanks to the power she showed, she had a 1.375 slugging percentage for the week. Ledbetter had two, two-run home runs against 24th-ranked Georgia Tech on Friday and finished with four RBIs. She drove in two more RBI on a double against Marshall on Saturday. She got her seventh RBI of the weekend against Marshall Sunday when she drew a bases loaded walk. Ledbetter was great defensively all weekend. She had a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage, recording 21 total putouts and five assists. She threw out five runners that attempted to steal on her.
Ledbetter was previously named MAC East Division Player of the Week on Mar. 1 and Mar. 15, 2011.
Miami returns to action next weekend when it participates in the Frost Classic in Chattanooga, Tenn. On Friday, the RedHawks will take on Eastern Kentucky at 11 a.m. and Boston College at 3:30 p.m. On Saturday there will be matchups against Tennessee Tech at 11 a.m. and versus host Chattanooga at 1:15 p.m. Miami will conclude the tournament next Sunday against Lipscomb at 10 a.m.
