OXFORD, Ohio - A mid-week change in plans will see the majority of the Miami University women's track and field team travel to Allendale, Mich. for the GVSU Big meet, hosted by Grand Valley State University at the Kelly Family Sports Center. The two-day meet is Friday and Saturday, however the RedHawks will only compete on Friday.

Miami's throwers, along with a distance runner, will compete at the Hoosier Hills Invitational, hosted by Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind. on Friday, as well. The entire RedHawk squad was originally scheduled to attend the Hoosier Hills Invite but head coach Kelly Phillips opted for the larger of the two meets.

At the GVSU Big Meet, Miami will be competing against over 50 teams, including No. 18 Indiana State and No. 24 Michigan State. Several Mid-American Conference schools will also be in attendance, including Akron, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Northern Illinois, Toledo and Western Michigan. Other Division I schools at the meet include Notre Dame, Marquette, Detroit, Illinois State, Oakland, Eastern Illinois, Southern Illinois and Milwaukee. The RedHawks will face several Division II powerhouses, as well, including No. 4 Ashland, No. 10 Saginaw Valley State, No. 13 Adams State, No. 21 Ferris State and No. 24 Tiffin, as well as the No. 1-ranked and host Lakers.

In Bloomington, action at Gladstein Fieldhouse begins at 5 p.m. though the first throwing event is the weight throw at 7:30 p.m. while three 'Hawks will also participate in the shot put at 9:30 p.m. Sophomore Sammi Vaughan (Mantua, Ohio) will run in the 3000m at 9:35 p.m. to complete Miami's competitors at the Hoosier Hills Invite. At the Indiana meet, the throwers will go against MAC foes Ball State and Ohio, as well as local rivals Xavier and Cincinnati, Louisville, Arkansas State, Tiffin, Marshall and the host Hoosiers, among others.

Last weekend at the Akron Invitational, the RedHawks won three events, including capturing the top three spots in the gold division 5000m run led by sophomore Anna Lamb (Granville, Ohio), who posted a time that ranks her fourth in school history. Fellow sophomore Melissa Girgis (Worthington, Ohio) and senior Monica Fischer (Cincinnati, Ohio) rounded out the top three. Miami also took the top two places in the blue division pole vault as junior Kori Tatman (Amanda, Ohio) was first while sophomore Taylor Brown (Hililard, Ohio) took second. Redshirt senior Alexandra Roberts (Hilliard, Ohio) won the gold division shot put as Miami's other winner. Freshman Kala Allen (East Amherst, N.Y.) posted all-time top-10 marks in the 400m dash and 200m dash and junior Erica Howes (Fairfax, Va.) earned runner-up in the 3K gold division.

With just two weeks to go before the MAC Championships, several RedHawks rank near the top of the league in their respective events. Lamb holds the top 5K time after her showing at Akron while Girgis is fifth. In the 60m hurdles, senior Layne Baggett (Pittsburgh, Pa.) is tied for third (8.47) while Allen is fourth in the 400m dash after her performance at Akron last weekend. Sophomore Taylor Wickware (Geneva, Ill.) is sixth in the 800m (2:13.25) while Girgis (9:48.57) and Lamb (9:54.07) rank sixth and seventh in the 3000m run. In field events, junior Erica Mudd (Cincinnati, Ohio) and redshirt junior Ashley Zaper (Whitehouse, Ohio) are tied for third in the high jump (1.73m/5-8) while Mudd is fourth in the long jump as well (5.77m/18-11.25). Roberts ranks fifth in the shot put (14.72m/48-3.5) as does Zaper in the pentathlon (3,521 points).

Following the meets this weekend, Miami competes at the Ball State Quadrangular in Muncie, Ind. on Friday, Feb. 15 in a final tune-up before the MAC Championships.
