OXFORD, Ohio -- Miami University's football coaching staff announced Wednesday that 22 high school players had signed National Letters of Intent. The announcements were made during Miami's annual RedHawk Recruiting Live webcast.

Seven different states sent football players to the RedHawk program. Exactly half of the 22 are products from the state of Ohio. 

 "Our focus has always been to recruit the state of Ohio," said Treadwell. "We're always going to recruit our back yard. Much like last year's class, we had a lot of flexibility this year. It allowed us to bring in talent at every position across the board."

Falon broke three school records as a senior, including most carries (224) and most rushing yards in a season (2,100) ... he scored 25 touchdowns in his final prep season ...  earned first-team all-district honors his season year ... Coach Ryan Sulkowski's Wildcats compiled a 9-3 record and were district champs in 2012 ... Falon also participated in track and field, recording a six-foot-six-inch high jump ... born November  4, 1994, he is the son of Damon Lee and Roseanna Singletary ... intends to major in psychology at Miami.

Coach Ryan Sulkowski about Falon Lee: "Falon was one of only six running backs in the state of Florida to rush for over 2,000 yards this past season.  His progression as a top-tier running back was obvious when he was placed on the first-team All-First Coast (Jacksonville, FL) squad (70 schools) with the national career rushing leader, Derrick Henry of Yulee High School.  Falon had the best season in the history of Baker County High School and his style of running is very conducive to what Miami is looking for in a running back.  He is the most versatile and durable running back I have ever coached and I have coached three running backs that have been drafted into the NFL.  Falon is very motivated and such a great young man that I cannot wait to see where his career goes!"

Coach Treadwell about Falon Lee: "As you watch the highlights of Falon, he demonstrates the ability to be a physical runner.  He also has the uniqueness of certain things you don't teach and that's called vision. Earned all-state, all-area and all-conference honors as a senior, being named to the Indiana Gridiron Digest Prime Time 25 and the IFCA Top 50 ... recruited to Miami as a receiver, he recorded 94 catches for 1,363 yards and 12 touchdowns last  season ... as a defensive back, he notched 14 career interceptions ... also played quarterback and punted, and was a returner of both kicks and punts ... born July 20, 1994, he is the son of Chuck and Jo Ella Murphy ... an honor roll student, Jared plans to major in business at Miami.

Grant's Orchard Lake St. Mary's Eaglets played in four state championship game, winning once ... Niemiec's cousin, Spencer McInnis, is an upcoming sophomore  at Miami ... Coach Treadwell about Grant Niemiec: "Grant and Spencer McInnis are first cousins so there's a family thing going on. Orchard Lake St. Mary's is a school that every college program recruits. Grant really makes his presence known as a tough-nosed tackler.

Played in just one game last season after shattering his elbow and tearing his tricep ... an outstanding player his sophomore and junior seasons, South Bend St. Joseph was 12-3 in 2011 and was runner-up in the state championship playoffs ... averaged 136 tackles as a sophomore and junior ... captained the football team twice ... earned first-team all-state and all-conference honors in 2011, and was the team MVP ... he also played basketball ... born May 10, 1994, he is the son of Brian and Marla Smallbone ... his dad played football at Central Michigan and his sister (Sydney) played basketball at Tennessee ... active in community service ... Matt plans to major in business at Miami.

Coach Treadwell about Matt Smallbone: "Matt has a tremendous frame, so we're going to look at him at two positions. If he puts some weight on, he can be a great defensive end. Because of an injury his senior year, he didn't get to participate as much, so he's kind of a hidden gem. Because of his movement, we're really excited about him."

Earned first-team honors on the AP Division II All-Ohio squad ... among his other honors were Akron Touchdown Club Player of the Year, Inland District Defensive Player of the Year, conference Defensive Player of the Year, all-conference, team MVP and team captain ... on defense in 2012, he recorded 123 tackles, five QB sacks, 12 TFLs, two safeties and five interceptions, including two that were returned for touchdowns ... on offense, he averaged 28 yards per catch and scored five touchdowns ... Zach also captained the track team twice, running the 100 hurdles and throwing the discus ... averaged 4.0 as a student ... he plays the piano and has performed in musicals ... at one point in his life, Zach lived in Rwanda (Africa) ... born September 15, 1994, he is the son of Ronald and Christine Smierciak.

Quarterback -- 6-4, 220

Brecksville, OH ... Brecksville Broadview High School ... Coach Jason Black

A third-team All-Ohio selection and a first-team all-conference selection, he was Broadview's MVP and team captain ... he threw for 6,000 yards and 53 touchdowns during his prep career, holding school records in both categories ... he broke his collarbone as a junior and sat out seven games ... also a fine basketball player, he averaged 13 points, six rebound and five assists per game ... born September 22, 1994, he is the son of tom and Beth Tupa ... dad played football for Ohio State, then was an 18-year veteran of the NFL as a quarterback and punter ... an honor roll student, he plans to major in business at Miami.

Damon and his Kirtland High teammates won back-to-back state championships, winning 29 games in a row during a stretch ... he rushed for 1,903 yards last season, averaging more than 12 yards per carry ... he scored 39 touchdowns ...  twice was All-Ohio and four times was All-Lake County and all-conference ... an outstanding sprinter, he's a record holder in the 200 meters and the 4x100 relay ... has recorded a 100-meter time of :11.0 ...
