Listed below is a recap of last week's results as well as a look ahead at this week's games. Enjoy!
Last week: Miami defeated Ohio State, 1-0, in the opening game of the inaugural Three Rivers Classic at CONSOL Energy Arena Friday night in Pittsburgh (FULL STORY). With the win, the fifth-ranked RedHawks advanced to the tournament's championship game, but fell to Robert Morris, 1-0, Saturday night (FULL STORY). MU improved to 12-4-4 overall. Additionally, Miami freshman forwards Riley Barber and Sean Kuraly will trade in their red and white RedHawk sweaters for red, white and blue jerseys as both players were named to the U.S. National Junior Team that will compete at the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Junior Championships (FULL STORY). Coming Up: The RedHawks are off next weekend before hitting the road again to resume CCHA action at Northern Michigan, Jan. 11-12. Puck drop is set for 7:35 p.m. both nights at the Berry Events Center in Marquette, Mich. Miami beat and tied the Wildcats in Oxford, Nov. 9-10, taking five of six points in the CCHA series.
Last week: The RedHawks improved to 5-6 overall with back-to-back wins against Illinois-Chicago Saturday, Dec. 22 and Wilmington College Sunday, Dec. 30. Miami beat Illinois-Chicago, 82-70, thanks to Will Sullivan, who scored a career-high 16 points (FULL STORY). MU then earned an 84-67 victory over Wilmington in which Allen Roberts and Reggie Johnson both had 16 points apiece (FULL STORY). This week: The RedHawks return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 2 when they host Massachusetts at 7 p.m.
Last week: The RedHawks split a pair of games in the Caribbean Classic in Cancun, Mexico Friday, Dec. 21 through Saturday, Dec. 22. Miami lost to Creighton, 67-56, to open the Classic (FULL STORY), but finished strong with a 62-49 victory over Nevada to conclude the tournament. Courtney Osborn had 30 points in the team's win (FULL STORY). MU improved to 7-5 overall. This week: Miami returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 5 when it travels to Duquesne for its final non-conference contest before Mid-American Conference play begins. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
Coming up: All three of Miami's synchronized skating teams are off until Jan. 11-12 when they travel to Fraser, Mich. The junior team will compete at the Junior World Qualifier Jan. 11-12, while the senior and collegiate teams will be competing at the same location in the Mid-America Championships Jan. 12-13.
Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving
This week & Coming up: The women's swimming and diving team travels to Boca Raton, Fla. for a meet against James Madison Thursday, Jan. 3, while the men's team is off until Friday, Jan. 11 when it travels to compete against Cincinnati.
Coming up: The Miami women's tennis team continues its spring season Saturday, Jan. 19 with a match against Indiana in Cincinnati at the Western Hills Tennis Center. Matches begin at 11 a.m.
